The Bourne Ultimatum

I did it a little differently this time. Wednesday night I watched The Bourne Identity, Thursday night The Bourne Supremacy and Friday I saw this latest installment. I was glad I did this because they started "Ultimatum" from the exact point that "Supremacy" left off. Now, I hold the first two pictures in the highest esteem and having seen them both so recently I wondered if they could keep the energy and high quality level going. Well, I will tell you that they did AND in doing so they have created one of the greatest trilogies in Hollywood history. This latest picture is the best Bourne of all and that is not to take anything away from the first two.

There are three things going on in Jason Bourne's (Matt Damon) life. He is still trying to find out who and what he is, he's mourning the death of his girl friend and he's trying to stay alive. A new group of assassins are after him and they are the creme de la creme of killers. These are the guys that they send to kill the guys that kill guys for a living! They are the best. The problem is the target, it's Bourne and they just piss him off. All of this is happening while he's searching for the answers that will give him a little peace,...........maybe.

Like spies? This is your picture! Like action? Here it is! Like a well written story and an actor who was Bourne.....oops, I mean BORN to play the role? It's all here and though action pictures never receive Oscar® nominations, as they are rarely artsy fartsy BS, this should be the one exception. Matt Damon plays Bourne (as he has twice before) in a low-key, befuddled way that someone with amnesia would. He enlists our sympathy and respect and has us wanting to leap onto the screen and help him, as if he really needed it. I can not visualize anyone else in the role and that is a testament to his craft. It was also good to see the great Albert Finney and Scott Glenn make brief appearances, but it was Joan Allen and an expanded role for Julia Stiles that rounded out the fine acting in this superb picture. This is NOT a great action picture. This is a great PICTURE!

"Jesus Christ! That's Jason Bourne!"

RECOMMENDATION: See it! See it again and buy it when it goes to DVD! I would say, take the whole family, though it's rated PG 13 for action picture type violence. No sex and very little blood. Just go!

TWO FURIOUSLY FAST, HOPE IT AIN'T THE LAST, THUMBS UP!!! BOURNE AGAIN!!!
