STAR TREK: NEMESIS Reviewed by Terry Anderson 12/13/02 For me,
and I only speak for myself, Star Trek is NOT Star Trek without
Captain Kirk, Scotty, Doc McCoy, Sulu and the gang. They had a better
mix than these "rookie" trekkers and I have never accepted the latter as
the "real deal". Having put that prejudice aside, I was dragged (drug?)
to Beverly Hills, kickin' and screamin' by That Lady to see this supposedly
(and hopefully) final installment. In my opinion, the last THREE should
have been the FINAL installment but I was determined not to let that cloud
my judgement. Anyway, I went to see it with open eyes AND
THIS time we have the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise being called to Romulus to try to forge a peace treaty after the entire Romulan Senate has been assassinated. Captain Picard goes there only to find that things are not what they seem. In fact, what he finds is the only unique part of this otherwise bland and well worn story, but I won't give that away JUST IN CASE there's a hardcore fan out there that is determined to be separated from his hard earned money. Two of the crew regulars are married at the start of the picture and they have to postpone their honeymoon until the predictable conclusion that gives us the typical-Enterprise is disabled! The Warp drive is down! The shields won't hold! "Captain, all we have is IMPULSE POWER!" And the ultimate cliché of our illustrious leader "tricking" the bad guys and THEN (surprise, surprise!) doing them in! WOW! I just saved you $9.00. THAT'S the whole picture and I won't even recommend the video. Look, I'm not trying to be hard on Captain Picard and the rest of the cardboard crew, I just wish they would give it up and put a great series to a merciful end. Believe me, it's time. RECOMMENDATION:
If you're a Star Trek fan, and absolutely HAVE to see
TWO WORN
OUT, TIRED, "SCOTTY, BEAM UP THE SERIES", THUMBS DOWN!!!
