Yeah, I know, not my kinda picture but That Lady wanted to see it and after a short (very short) discussion I acquiesced.  I will admit that it looked like a sweet, innocent, idealistic story and it WAS but there was
no substance, no plot and everything that happened was extremely predictable.  I found myself saying all the punch lines before they arrived.  I knew the whole story before I saw the picture and THAT'S a bad thing.  I kept waiting for something unique to happen but it never did.  Same old same old!

Reese Witherspoon (who is SO ugly she's cute) plays Melanie, a southern, trailer-home escapee who becomes very successful in her new life as a fashion designer.  Things have gone so well for her that she is now engaged to the Mayor of New York's son played by Patrick Dempsey (where the hell has HE been?).  The mayor, played by Candice Bergen, is a hard core political bitch who wants her son to be president some day.  How can she accomplish that when her daughter-in-law to-be is a redneck from
Alabama?  Add to that the fact that she (Witherspoon) is still married to her childhood sweetheart and needs an immediate divorce.  And HE (Josh Lucas) is still in love with her!  Can she get rid of him?  Can
she hide her poor beginnings?  Can she find happiness in her new life?  CAN I PLEASE FORGET THAT I EVER WENT TO SEE THE MOVIE???  I will try.

RECOMMENDATION:  IF you like sappy, syruppy, cutesy pictures, this is for you.  IF you want a story, "about somethin", DON'T DO IT!

TWO HIDE YOUR FACE AS YOU LEAVE THE THEATRE, THUMBS DOWN!!!
